Schlein: “Meloni is not able to say no to her friend Trump, she should have held Spain's position”

"Just as Spain remains within the Atlantic Alliance, I told Giorgia Meloni that in the interest of Italy and in order not to put a mortgage on the future of future generations, she should have held the same position" as Madrid, "which confirmed the NATO commitment and confirmed the capacity objectives but claimed to be able to reach them without an increase to 5%, but stopping at 2.5% of GDP and reached an agreement". This was stated by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein , speaking to Tagadà on La7.
Schlein continues: "It is not clear why Giorgia Meloni is never able to say no to her friend Trump . This is a risk for national interests. And what's more, as I said before, we have in her majority those who rail against European rearmament and who, however, accept that Trump is rearming Europe".
According to the secretary of the Democratic Party, the Russian threat to Europe "has already been realized with the criminal invasion of Ukraine, and it is clear that Europe today cannot rely on others for its security". And she adds: "The only way in such an uncertain geopolitical scenario to guarantee European security is to take a leap forward towards a common and integrated European defense. Certainly not towards the rearmament of the individual 27 European states with 27 different armies that are not coordinated with each other and therefore lack an effective deterrent even towards Putin".
